KIND OF CRAFTY WITH TASNEEM

“Hi!

I’m Tasneem from @kind_of_crafty. Ever since I was a young child, I have always loved exploring art and it’s many different mediums. I have been blessed to be surrounded by family & friends who have always supported this passion and have always encouraged me to continue with my creative adventures. For many years it helped me get through many things in life. A few years ago I decided that perhaps it’s safe to share some of my art with some of my friends on social media. It wasn’t until this year, when I decided to be brave, that I started my Kind of Crafty page and allowed the joy I feel to be felt by those around me. This is what I hope for, to share a little piece of happiness and love with all who join me on this journey, be it by joining an art workshop, being inspired by those who post their beautiful art created in the workshops or from a small piece of art created by me. May we all inspire one another to be brave and take small steps towards living a life that brings us peace and happiness within.”

Lettering step-by-step:

1. Decide on the wording & then use some masking tape to tape your watercolour paper to a board.

2. Sketch out your idea lightly with a pencil, onto your watercolour paper, preferably 200gsm and above if using watercolours. I’ve used the Mont Marte watercolour cotton paper pad here (available at PNA).

3. Using a kneaded eraser (PNA) lightly erase to make the pencil outlines a bit lighter.

4. Activate your watercolour paints (Mungyo watercolours used-available at PNA) by spraying or putting a few drops of water on the colours which you will be using.

5. In the well of your palette (mont marte disposable plastic palette used here from PNA. These can easily be reused with watercolour by spraying with water and wiping clean), put a few drops of water, either using your brush or a pipette (available from PNA). Add the colours to seperate wells, until you get the desired amount of colour.

6. Paint using the colours mixed in the palette, onto the page, dropping different colours in here and there to experience some watercolour magic with the wet on wet technique.

7. Add some splatter by tapping your brush against a pen, and painting some doodles around the letters.

8. Allow the painting to dry well (10-15 minutes atleast).

9. Using a pigma micron 0.5 pen, outline the letters, adding some shadow like effects by thickening one side of the letters. Draw in the outlines of the doodles painted previously, and add some other doodles around the page with the pen.

10. Gently remove the masking tape, and voila! All done!
