With a moo-moo and an oink-oink, we celebrate World Farm Animals Day!

World Farm Animals Day

A day just for our furry and feathered friends who lives on the farm! On 2 October, we celebrate World Farm Animal Day. This day is a global celebration of farm animals and the people who care for them.

In honour of this occasion, we have compiled a list of crafts that you and your kids can do with supplies found at your nearest PNA store to celebrate.

These crafts will help foster an appreciation for farm animals and how they play a role in our lives too!

Creative crafts on World Farm Animal Day

On this day, we get the chance to teach our children more about farm animals, honour their beauty and teach them how to appreciate these animal friends. Let’s get to know them a bit better and, at the same time, get our creative juices flowing!

While doing these crafts, why not enjoy singing some farm animal songs like the old classic, “Old MacDonald had a farm”? They’ll be professionals in all the animal sounds in no time! We have just the playlist for you: Farm Animal Playlist

Paper plate sheep mask

Make this cute sheep mask with your little one while singing “Mary had a little lamb”! Remember to take some pics afterwards.

You’ll need:

Paper plates, white cotton balls, white cardboard, glue and scissors.

Make your cotton ball sheep mask:

  1. Cut the inner circle out of the paper plate.
  2. Cut out little ears and stick them to the mask.
  3. Stick the paper plate full of cotton balls to complete the look.

Muddy pig

Time to get dirty! This is a great sensory art project for toddlers and preschoolers. If you’re looking for an activity to introduce them to a new texture and get those fingers moving, this is perfect. Don’t worry about the mess! The whole process is contained in a sealable bag! Pheeew! Thank goodness.

You’ll need:

  • Pig printable (Click here to download)
  • Large sealable plastic bag
  • Shaving cream
  • Brown washable paint

How to get a pig dirty:

  1. Print the pig on light pink paper and then cut it out.
  2. Have 1 plastic bag for each child ready.
  3. Squirt some of the brown paint as well as the shaving cream into the bag along with the paper pig.
  4. Seal each bag after adding the paint and shaving cream.
  5. Let the kids pat and mix the shaving cream on top of their pigs, inside the bag.
  6. Keep on patting the tops of their bags until they decided the pigs are muddy enough.
  7. Remove all the pigs from the bags and place them on trays to dry.
  8. Optional: After the pigs have dried, cut them out and stick them on sturdier green cardboard.

Hatching Chick

  • Stapler
  • Glue

Other ways to celebrate this day

Taking children for a visit to a farm is a great way to teach them about farm animals, and it’s a good chance to teach them to treat animals with respect. Another great way to celebrate is by donating to an animal protection charity of your choice.

We hope these ideas will keep them entertained and teach them about the importance of caring for animals. Let’s instil that sense of respect and appreciation for animals in our children.

We hope you enjoy these activities as much as we did. Happy World Farm Animal Day!
