Find the artist in you on International Artist Day

World Artist Day

Today on 25 October, it’s International Artist Day! Do you have an artist in you? Join us as we explore what it means to be an artist and share your art with other artists. Share your favourite colour, paint a picture, or write about what inspires you to create. Who knows? You might find out that there’s more of an artist inside than you thought!

We all have something inside of us that is artistically inclined. Maybe it’s singing in the shower or watching an episode of Bob Ross and creating your own painting on canvas with paintbrushes. Let’s celebrate this day by acknowledging our inner artists, releasing the creativity within us!

The most important thing to remember about International Artist Day is that it’s all about celebrating your creative self and not worrying what other people think. If you don’t feel like drawing or painting, do something else that inspires your inner artist! Remember: life is too short to spend it doing anything less than what makes you happy and gives your soul flight!

How to find your inner artist?

One of the first things you can do is find an inspiring place in your home or outside of it to work. Maybe you will want to try painting in the garden or drawing in your bedroom. Whatever inspires you most, go there! Getting out of our daily routine helps us focus more on our creative side than anything else, so don’t be afraid to explore new places and spaces with different scenery.

Another way is by listening to music while creating. Putting on that tune that gets you fired up will also help inspire some creativity. Look around you and get inspired by the world that surrounds you. Identify different colours, textures and sounds in the garden or your home. Something as simple as new leaves on a tree might just compel you to create something new from what’s already there.

More ways to help find your artistic self:

  • Take an art class.
  • Try something new like macrame, diamond art, paint by numbers or even knitting.
  • Experiment with different mediums like paints, ceramics, sculpting clay – see which one speaks to you!
  • Draw pictures of things that inspire you (friends, family members) until they come alive on the page.
  • Write a poem.
  • Design new clothes.

What does it mean to be an artist? To some people, art is a purely a creative endeavour with no need for practicality or tangible rewards. But if you’ve ever tried your hand at painting or sculpting – or even just written a poem – you know that creativity comes from somewhere deep inside of us. That place can lead us into many other places as well: our own imaginations, our relationships with others, our sense of self-worth and meaning in this world. In short: being an artist is so much more than putting pencil to paper or brush to canvas. Art is a way of seeing the world, a way of expression, often a compulsion: we simply must create!

Celebrating artists on International Artist Day

On Artist Day, we’re not only encouraged to be creative but also urged to celebrate artists who have made a great impact on our society. One of the greats who stands out as he shares his birthday on or this day is Pablo Picasso.

Picasso was born on 25 October, and this Spanish painter, sculptor, printmaker, ceramicist and theatre designer is regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. He is famous for paintings like ‘Guernica’ and the art movement known as Cubism. Picasso remains renowned for endlessly reinventing himself, switching between styles so radically different that his life’s work seems to be the product of five or six great artists rather than just one. Just like Pablo, you don’t have to be fixated on one art form. Try out multiple!

To celebrate this extraordinary man, here are a few fun projects to put your spin on some Picasso works:

These projects can be done by you and are just as enjoyable for the kids too! Remember what Picasso said: “Every child is an artist. The problem is to remain an artist once they grow up.” So, never lose that artist in you! Create, create, create!

Every year, on 25October, artists worldwide celebrate creativity by drawing, painting or just being creative in any form for at least one hour. Join us! Spend an hour today creating something you’re proud of and share it with others using #ArtistDay. Also, remember that we share daily inspiration and tutorials on our social platforms. Choose from loads of fun and creative activities to explore your artistic side! Don’t forget to tag us: Facebook and Instagram.

Happy International Artists Day, creators!
