Women’s Day Featured Woman: Skyler Carmichael

  1. What do you love about yourself and what you do?

I love making kids smile and seeing the joy they get when they make and play with my slimes. I also LOVE creating new slimes and developing new slime concepts.

  1. What/who is your biggest influence?

My parents are my biggest influences. My parents have always encouraged me to be the best version of myself. My Dad is a successful businessman and advocate, and my mum was a popular Radio DJ and TV presenter/producer and now my MOManger… So the bar was set HIGH lol.

  1. What barriers have you faced, in becoming successful in your field? How did you overcome them?

Understanding how to run a business was challenging for me as I was just 9 years old when I started my business. My mum made me handle almost every aspect of the business.  She taught me how to overcome challenges and solve day-to-day problems.

Time management was important because I am still in school and had to balance school and my business …but I was and am determined to make it successful.

Sometimes kids can be mean, and the bigger my business grew the more challenges I had with kids being negative and mean. I had to learn that in business it’s not personal, as a little girl that’s difficult to understand sometimes.

I took their comments constructively and improved my craft and made it better. I’m now MORE confident because I believe in my brand and products.

  1. If you could describe yourself in three words, what would it be?

Lol, I have heard people describe me as sassy (my brother thinks I’m super SASSY), adventurous and determined.

  1. Name one reason you love being a woman/girl in general.

I think GIRLS RULE!!!!!  I love being my Daddy’s little butterfly.❤️

  1. How are you celebrating being a girl/woman during Women’s Month?

I have always been pro-women/ girl and have encouraged young girls to develop and start their own business. So for Women’s Month, every day, we are celebrating a new young entrepreneur and giving them a platform on our social media to market their business. There’s nothing more empowering than empowering other young girls and allowing them to shine.

  1. If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self, what would that be?

I would encourage myself to be more self-confident. I think confidence is definitely a key ingredient in being successful. I’m generally very shy, so that doesn’t help. lol

  1. What do you think is the biggest issue today facing little girls/women?

I recently did a project for school on gender inequality, and it really disturbed me to find out the injustices that women/girls go through daily. Basic human rights are being violated, and this makes me so sad to see and hear of the horrific things that these young girls go through.

  1. What main change would you like to see for young girls in the next generation?

I would like to see more girls and women in leadership positions, being given equal opportunities to show their skill and achieve their full potential.

  1. How important is it for girls to lift each other up, and what does that mean to you?

This is the most important question of all.. it’s is very important. I read something that said: “queens straighten other queens’ crowns”! And I love it! We need to stop hating on each other and cheer each other on and be happy for each other’s successes. It’s a challenging environment for women to be successful; we don’t need to be bringing each other down while the world try’s to keep us down as well. It’s time for us to RISE and be HEARD and SEEN for the QUEENS that we are…
