December 7th is National Slime Day—the perfect day to get your hands messy and your creativity flowing! Celebrate National Slime Day with PNA as we embrace this gooey, stretchy, and super-satisfying substance that feels like jelly. It’s fun to squish, stretch, and it comes in all sorts of colours and textures—glittery, fluffy, crunchy, or even glow-in-the-dark

And the best part? You can find many of the basic ingredients like glue and fun add-ins like glitter at your nearest PNA store to kickstart your slime-making adventure at home!

This guide will teach you how to make slime that’s stretchy, colourful, and loads of fun for the whole family. Let’s get started!

How to Make Your Own Slime

Making slime at home is easy and so much fun. Here’s a simple recipe that only needs a few ingredients you might already have in your house.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1 cup of white school glue
  • ½ cup of water
  • ½ teaspoon of baking soda
  • 1 tablespoon of contact lens solution (must contain boric acid)
  • Food colouring (any colour you like!)
  • Glitter or small beads (optional for extra fun!)

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1.  Get Your Bowl Ready

Take a clean mixing bowl and pour in the white glue. This is the base of your slime. Make sure your bowl is large enough to hold all of your ingredients

  1. Add Water and Stir

Add the water to the glue and mix it well. Use a spoon to stir until it’s smooth and combined.

  1. Add Colour and Sparkles

This is the fun part! Add a few drops of food colouring to the mixture and stir until the colour is even. If you want a glittery slime, sprinkle in some glitter. You can even mix in beads for a crunchy texture.

  1. Mix in Baking Soda

Add the baking soda to your bowl and stir it into the mixture. This helps the slime get the perfect consistency.

  1. Activate Your Slime

Now it’s time for the magic! Slowly add the contact lens solution, one small spritz at a time, and stir. The slime will start to form as you mix. If it’s too sticky, add a little more contact lens solution until it feels just right.

  1. Knead and Play

Take the slime out of the bowl and knead it with your hands. This makes it smooth and stretchy. Once it feels perfect, you’re ready to play!

PNA’s Tips for Slime Success

  • Use the right glue: White school glue works best for this recipe. Avoid glue that says “washable” or “non-sticky.”
  • Don’t overdo the contact lens solution: Adding too much can make your slime stiff. Start small and add more as needed.
  • Store your slime properly: Keep your slime in an airtight container when you’re not using it. This stops it from drying out.
  • Get creative: Try mixing two colours of slime to make a swirl, or add fun extras like foam balls or sequins!

Fun Variations to Try

Fluffy Slime

Make your slime soft and airy by adding a few tablespoons of shaving cream to the glue and water mixture before adding baking soda. The result is a light, puffy slime that feels like a squishy cloud! For extra fun, mix in foam beads for a bubbly texture or add food colouring to make it pop. You can even create a rainbow by layering different colours of fluffy slime!

Glow-in-the-Dark Slime

Give your slime a magical glow! Simply use glow-in-the-dark glue or mix in glow powder with your slime mixture, switch off the lights and watch your creation shine—it’s like your own slimy nightlight!

Scented Slime

Make your slime smell as amazing as it feels! Add a drop or two of vanilla extract, peppermint oil, or your favourite essential oil to your mixture. For an extra creative touch, match the scent to the slime’s colour: think pink strawberry-scented slime or green minty slime. Add glitter or small charms to make it look as good as it smells!

Safety First

While making slime is safe and fun, here are some safety tips to keep in mind:

  • Always wash your hands before and after playing with slime.
  • Don’t eat the slime or put it near your mouth.
  • If you have sensitive skin, wear gloves while kneading the slime.
  • Keep slime away from carpets and furniture to avoid sticky messes.
