Winter holiday fun | crafts, toys and games for kids

Oh boy, do we have a treat for the kids! With winter fast approaching it’s the ideal time to put your thinking hats on (preferably decorated with a big, fuzzy pom-pom of course!) and start thinking of fun indoor activities to keep the boredom chills away! Let’s have a look at some fun kid-friendly activities that kids can partake in this winter.

Scratch off magic paper art

We’re such fans of refrigerator art and this one surely takes the cake. Everything about this art is fun – from colouring the hidden layer to painting and scratching pretty designs over the top! This is sure to be a winner amongst all young artists.

You’ll need:

  • White cardstock paper
  • Crayons
  • Black paint
  • Dish soap
  • Foam paint brush
  • Toothpicks or paper clips

Cardboard fun

There is so much fun to be had with a cardboard box – all you need is some added imagination and a bit of glue. Build an indoor train station or a cardboard house like this one, and you’ll find it difficult to try and convince them to play outside when the weather gets warmer again.

But then again, if you’re looking for a quick and easy go-to fun activity that doesn’t need a lot of muscle work, we suggest these fun indoor games!

Balloon-mania

What makes balloons so much fun? Kids love them, they’re always a hit at parties and they make for the ideal indoor toy – why? Because balloons are so soft and light and they tend to bounce off anything without leaving a trail of broken porcelain behind.

Some of our favourite balloon games include the Balloon Paddle Ball Game whereby you attach popsicle sticks to the back of paper plates and voila! You’ve got paddles. Another fun favourite is Balloon Volleyball. Simply take two dining chairs and set them across from each other.  Then tape a string between the two chairs to make a net.  Let your kids get on either side of the net and spike the balloon back and forth to each other.

Streamer laser maze

Who can avoid the maze of lasers and get to the prize first? Play the spy game by streaming some crepe paper up in the hallway. Stick the ends really high or really low to make it as difficult or as easy depending on the age of the kids. It’s such an easy and cheap option to help keep their minds busy this winter holiday.
