You will need:

  • Pewter 7cm x7cm
  • A6 journal
  • Gold card 8cm x 8cm
  • Small ball tool
  • Paper stub
  • Piece of smooth firm cardboard
  • 2 pieces of felt
  • Design traced onto thick tracing paper
  • Masking tape
  • Beeswax and glass dropper
  • Cotton wool
  • Turpentine
  • Baby powder
  • Patina
  • Metal polish
  • Glue
  • Clear spray varnish

Method:

  1. Place pewter onto cardboard, masking tape in place.
  2. Place traced design over pewter, mask in place.
  3. Using the small ball tool, trace the entire design.
  4. Remove tracing paper and all masking tape.
  5. Use the small ball tool to create a scribble pattern on the small heart.
  6. Turn pewter over, place onto two pieces of felt, rub your figure over the big heard to emboss it.
  7. Turn pewter over, right side up, and place onto the cardboard.
  8. Draw around the edge of the big heart with the paper stub. Flatten the background with your finger.
  9. Fold one piece of felt in half creating 3 layers, place design wrong side up on the felt and emboss heart again using your finger. Turn over onto cardboard and draw around the big heart with the paper stub. Flatten background with your finger.
  10. Using the glass dropper, fill the back of the heart with melted beeswax, allow to cool.
  11. Clean the front with turpentine on cotton wool, then clean with baby powder on cotton wool.
  12. Apply patina with a piece of cotton wool.
  13. After 4 minutes polish off using Metal Polish
  14. Glue gold card in place on the journal. Glue the pewter in place on onto the gold card.
  15. Seal the cover with clear spray varnish.
