HOLIDAY FUN | Creating Your Own Kids Games

The holidays are around the corner and with it the stress of ‘how am I going to keep the kids entertained until January?’ We might have some suggestions. 😉 We love finding cute and inexpensive ways to craft and get the entire family involved! From baby to older brother and sister, get the crayons ready, we’ve got some templates up our sleeves to help you turn your ‘I’m so bored’ into ‘here’s something I haven’t tried before’. Let’s get colouring!

Snakes & Ladders

Nothing takes us back to our childhood like a game of snakes and ladders. Here’s your chance to show your child just how fun this game can be! But before we begin, scroll down and print the snakes and ladders template!

You’ll need:

  • Printer
  • Sheet of A4 White Paper
  • Colouring tools – felt pens, pencils, crayons etc
  • Laminator (Optional, for durability)
  • Dice
  • Playing Counters

What you’ll need to do:

  • Print out the template for the Snakes and Ladders Game onto A4 paper. To print right-click on the image and save to your computer. Print from there.
  • Colour in the game board.
  • Laminate the game board for durability (optional).

You’ll find that they might even enjoy playing the game more now that they had a hand in making it. Be sure to stop by PNA and stock up on all the colourful goodies you need to really give this game the fun factor.

Backyard Ker-Plunk Game

This one is not only for the kids! Team up and try your luck with a large scale homemade version of the classic Ker-Plunk game. New to the game? No need to worry, it’s as simple as removing one stick at a time. The object of the game is to remove the stick without having any of the balls fall out. The team with the least number of balls in the end, wins!

You’ll need:

  • 4 x 40 cm planks
  • 4 x 25 cm planks
  • Drill
  • Screws
  • Spray paint
  • Wire netting
  • 18-gauge wire
  • Wire cutters
  • Staple gun and staples
  • 30-40 bamboo garden stakes
  • Ball pit balls

Paper Popsicle Memory Game

Don’t let the little ones’ minds go slack during the holidays. We recommend this cute game to help improve memory. Mix up the popsicles and lay them out, face down on an even surface. Take turns turning over 2 popsicles at a time and if they match you get one point! If they don’t match, flip them over again and give the next person a chance to find a match. The aim of the game is to remember where the matches are. Once all the matches have been found, the player with the most pairs is the winner!

You’ll need:

  • Smooth white A4 card (x2)
  • Popsicle sticks (x12)
  • Scalpel
  • Ruler
  • Cutting board
  • Scissors
  • Double-sided tape
  • Colour printer
