Easter: Keep your kids busy with these ideas!

Easy Easter Craft Ideas for Kids

Easter is peeping out with its ears, almost like an Easter bunny! We’ll celebrate this Christian holiday and our belief that Jesus Christ has resurrected from Friday, 2 April (Good Friday) until 5 April (Eastern Monday, also known as Family Day).

Of course, without forgetting what Easter is really all about, just as with Christmas, there are gifts involved. But these gifts, as we all know, mostly contain chocolate in different egg and bunny shapes. Do you wonder why eggs and rabbits? Long ago, eating eggs was not allowed during the week leading up to Easter (known as Holy Week). Any eggs laid that week were saved, decorated and given to children as gifts. This tradition was adapted by Victorians by covering cardboard eggs with satin and filled with Easter gifts. This has grown into the tradition we know today.

The Easter bunny originated in the 19th century as rabbits give birth to babies, called kittens, which became a symbol of new life. Therefore, the Easter bunny lays the eggs, decorates it and delivers it to kids. This icon is different in other countries, though, for example, in Switzerland eggs are delivered by a cuckoo and in parts of Germany by a fox.

Furthermore, lots of crafts are involved here too, which makes us extremely excited! Due to this particular holiday period being a family celebration, we’ll share some interesting arts and crafts for you to enjoy making with your little kiddos.

5 DIY Easter Craft Ideas

DIY Bunny Party Hats: These easy and chic bunny party hats will get everyone into the Easter spirit, even adults too! All you need is coloured paper cardboards, scissors, permanent marker, glue, a craft knife, and twine – everything available at your nearest PNA store. Follow the tutorial here.

Topiary Bunny Wreath: Craft an inviting bunny wreath to ‘invite the Easter bunny’ into your home. It’s a cute little hopper, and we guarantee that your guests will love it too. Use paper crepe in shades of green, scissors, embroidery hoops in two different sizes, wire cutters, wire, floral tape, a glue gun and ribbon. See how easy it is here.

Easter Basket Craft: The children will need to put all their eggs in one basket, right? Here is an easy bunny basket using empty paper rolls, popsicle sticks, coloured paper cardboards, washi tape, pipe cleaner, glue, scissors, and craft jewels or rhinestones. Have your baskets ready in just 7 steps.

Hatching Chicks (Free Template): Decorating this egg can be left in your children’s hands with crayons and watercolour. But the chick sliding in and out of the egg is just too adorable not to try. You’ll need white paper cardboard, tissue paper, yellow feathers, crayons, watercolours, googly eyes, glue, scissors, and a stapler. Here’s how.

Mosaic Cross: We’ve added this just to ensure that children are reminded of Jesus Christ on the cross. Print out this cross template, coloured paper that is torn up, sponge brush, and glue and see how to guide your kids in creating a mosaic cross.
