Almie Upcycle for Nelson Mandela Day

In honour of Nelson Mandela Day, Almie shows us how to make this beautiful upcycled artwork.

You will need:

  • Transparent sheet
  • Picture as guide
  • Glue (one that does not turn yellow)
  • Small plastic bags or spoons
  • Small round Beads of all colours
  • Tweezers
  • Pins
  • sellotape

Method

The most difficult part of this project is to find the right picture. I accessed one from a magazine, but you can also retrieve one from google.

  1. Work on a flat surface. Place the picture underneath the transparent sheet and fasten it to the surface with some sellotape to prevent it from moving.
  2. Place all the beads in small bags and set aside.
  3. Start to paste glue on one section, allow the glue to get sticky and then start to scatter the coloured beads on the glue section with a spoon or cut one corner of the plastic bag to act as a funnel.
  4. Allow to dry, remove all loose beads and fill up if you have any gaps.
  5. Continue doing this until the entire picture is covered with beads, truly simple like colouring in with beads.
