DIY GIFT FOR HIM – Step-by-Step by Veronika Olivier
Supplies:
Project:
- Wood Gift Box with sliding top
- Collage Paper
- Gloss Gel Medium
- 50ml Red Craft Paint
- 50cm Jute Ribbon
- 1m Striped Cotton Ribbon
- Pritt Glue Stick
- Medium Taklon Paint Brush
- Raffia
- A4 Natural Board Paper
- Sanding Stick
- Pencil
Filling:

- “Moerkoffie”
- Coffee Creamer
- Condensed Milk
- Homemade Biscuits
- Plastic or Cellophane Bags
- Small glass containers
Tools:
- Scissors
- Ruler
Step 1:
Cut strips of the collage paper to fit the sides and top of your box.
Step 2:
Load the brush with gloss gel medium and paint one side of the box. Cover the whole area.

Step 3:
Attach the collage paper and rub gently with hand or an old credit card to remove any air bubbles. Paint a thin layer of gel medium over the top.
Step 4:
Allow drying for 30 – 50 seconds then pressing gently on a plastic book cover, hold a few seconds and remove. The gloss gel medium will stick to certain areas of the plastic and tear away when you lift up the box. This will render a distressed look. Seal these areas with gel medium.
Step 5:
Once all the sides and the top has been covered like in steps 2 – 4, use the sanding stick to remove excess paper on the sides and to sand away some paper for a distressed look.
Step 6:
Using your finger rub red craft paint over the distressed areas to create a cohesive look.
Step 7:
Paint the exposed wood with one layer of red craft paint.
Step 8:
Remove the coffee, creamer and condensed milk from original containers and put in plastic or cellophane bags or small glass containers.
Step 9:

Print your own words, or use templates onto natural board paper and cut into strips.
Step 10:
Using a glue stick secure the strips around the bags and glass containers.
Step 11:
Place raffia in the bottom of the box and fill with the coffee etc.
Step 12:
Finish off with Ribbons and secure the card with Prestik to be able to remove it later so that the box can be repurposed and used for bits & pieces.
The perfect gift for someone who needs a little “boeretroos”.
